Tea Tree Oil is used in many products that are convenient to have in your home first aid kit and many of these products you can make yourself with a few simple ingredients.

Why Use Tea Tree Oil?

Tea tree oil has a long history of traditional use. Australian aboriginals used tea tree leaves for healing skin cuts and infections, by crushing the leaves and applying them to the affected area.

Tea Tree Oil contains constituents called terpenoids, which kill fungus and bacteria.

• Hair Care - Anti-dandruff shampoos and conditioners are available that use tea tree oil. Tea tree oil can also be used to treat damaged hair.

• Pet Care - Some dog shampoos contain tea tree oil.

• Arthritis - Tea tree oil relieves some of the painful symptoms of arthritis.

• Other uses - Tea tree oil can be found in toothpastes, mouthwash, and lozenges used to soothe a sore throat. Tea tree oil's antibacterial action can also fight bad breath, foot odour, thrush, and rashes.

Tea tree oil blends rapidly and easily with the skin's own oils. In the process, the oil alters the chemical barrier of the skin, making it less hospitable to the growth of fungi and other organisms. Although allergic reactions to tea tree oil have been known, their incidence is extremely low when compared to synthetic products. Cases have been reported where the application of tea tree oil healed an infection that had survived a twelve-month course of antibiotics.
