Glimmer says your skin changes on a daily basis, from season
to season, from hormonal fluctuations, and even with your state
of mind. She believes the real art of beauty is to observe your
skin each day and to then treat accordingly, Try making combinations
from the following base oils, essential oils and extracts to
suit your own skin type.
Facial Moisturisers for the Summer Heat
Dry / Mature Skin
People with dry skin complexions are dehydrated because there is less seburn in the skin. The blood vessels have constricted and there are often broken capillaries. Characteristics include patches of flaky skin, lines or wrinkles. The skin is often dull, taut and coarse.
Base Oils
Jojoba, Apricot Kernel, Macadamia Nut, Rosehip, Avocado
Essential Oils
Rose Geranium, Geranium, Ylang Ylang, Rose Absolute, Frankincense, Chamomile
Herbal Extracts
Green Tea increases oxygen levels to the skin, which is important in summer as oxygen levels drop in dry conditions.
Ultimate Dry Skin Treatment
Combine Jojoba and Rosehip infused with carrot essential oil. Use for one-to-two weeks.
Normal Skin
Very few people have this skin type but it does exist. The challenge is to maintain the balance that is naturally occurring despite the summer heat. Normal skin is soft and supple (similar to a child's) with a clear looking appearance and no dry or oily zones.
Base Oils
Peach Kernel, Rosehip, Sweet Almond
Essential Oils
Lemon and Sweet Orange - astringents that close the pores. Also use Lavender, Rose and Rose Geranium.
Herbal Extracts
Ginko Biloba, Green Tea, Vitamin E
Normal Skin Moisturising Treatment
Hemp Oil - Don't use it daily but as a base for a treatment twice a week.
Combination Skin
The moisture levels in combination skin need balancing because in some areas the seburn is lacking and in other areas it is being overproduced. Characteristics include patches of oily and dry skin, t-zone oiliness, and dilated pores and blackheads. Excess oil and toxins need to be drawn out but the face still needs moisturising.
Base Oils
Jojoba, Evening Primrose
Essential Oils
Geranium - balances out moisture levels. Also use Sandalwood, Palmarosa, Honeysuckle and Neroli.
Extracts
Sea Weed Extract draws and moisturises. Green Tea Extract.
Combination Skin Treatment
Sea Weed Masks
Oil Skin
The oily skin complexion has a general overproduction of seburn. Characteristics include open and dilated pores, blemishes and acne, a shiny appearance and an orange peel grain-like texture. It is vital to cleanse away excess seburn before applying any other moisturiser.
Base Oils
Grapeseed, Jojoba
Essential Oils
Tea Tree - antibacterial. Lemon - astringent. Also try Cypress, Lavender and Geranium.
Extracts
Seaweed Extract, Use Green Tea Extract for oxygenation - oily skin inhibits oxygenation flow.
Oily Skin Treatment
Green Clay Mask.
Sensitive Skin
These skin types react to many man-made products and need skincare with ingredients that have a very gentle action. With sensitive skin it is important to be as chemical free as possible as there is a susceptibility to rashes or imflammation.
Base Oils
Jojoba, Rosehip
Essential Oils
Rose Absolute, Geranium, Chamomile soothes and refreshes agitated skin.
Extracts
Grape Seed Extract, Green Tea Extract.
Sensitive Skin Pre-treatment
Use a natural sun block and if necessary avoid direct sun.

Tips for buying natural skincare ingredients
*All base oils used should be cold pressed. When making up a moisturiser you can choose single base oils or a combination. Apply these straight on the face or mix the recipes with an unscented face creme base.
*Use glycerine based herbal extracts. Alcohol based extracts dry the skin.
*Use whole ingredients and not synthetically isolated chemicals derived from a lab.
*Use essential oils only as instructed by manufacturer.

Summer Sun Skin Care Recipes
Here are some luscious spa treatments you can apply at home. These recipes are tailored for adults. You will need to halve the essential oil dilutions for pregnant women, children or to put on your face.
|
After Sun Sunburn Soother
120mL Jojoba oil
75mL Macadamia oil
40 drops of Chamomile oil - reduces inflammation and redness.
60 drops of Lavender oil - relieves stinging, regenerates and soothes.
You can also add this blend to a soothing bath. For extreme sunburn (where skin is too sore to touch) use Rosewater spray on affected areas.
Mists
Spray mists refresh and hydrate the skin in summer. Keep them in your purse or car to spritz and uplift as often as you can. Ideal mists: Rosewater, Orange Blossom and Lavender.
