Aromatherapy and Essential Oils.

Aromatherapy for mind, body and spirit.

The essential oils of aromatherapy are extracted from aromatic plants and herbs.

What is Aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is derived from two words: Aroma - meaning fragrance or smell; and Therapy - meaning treatment.

Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils extracted from flowers, herbs and trees to enhance the well being of body, mind and spirit.

Aromatherapy is the art of healing the body using naturally distilled essences from different parts of plant to improve and enhance your everyday emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being. These essences are known as essential oils.

Aromatherapy works in two ways: through the sense of smell or inhalation and through the skin during massage or bathing.

Aromatherapy heals in a easy and gentle way. And what's more, the ‘treatment' is not just for your physical problems, but for your mental and emotional problems as well.

Aromatherapy can be used to relax and sooth the mind and body, to energize or even to arouse.

The nature of aromatherapy is as a holistic treatment, restoring balance to mind and body as well as its specific use in treating a wide range of symptoms.

What are Essential Oils ?

Essential oils are highly concentrated oils extracted from various parts of aromatic plants, flowers and trees.

These essential oils are the concentrated essences of the aromatic plant.

They can be used as

  • an anti-viral (to prevent infections)
  • an analgesic (to alleviate pain)
  • an anti-fungal
  • an anti-inflammatory (to reduce swelling)
  • an anti-bacterial

Essential Oils can be used to calm and soothe or stimulate and invigorate your emotions and well-being.

Essential Oils should be stored in dark coloured glass bottles in a cool area, out of direct light. Unless noted, they should not be applied directly to the skin, but instead placed in a carrier oil such as almond oil, so as to avoid irritation.

Research has shown essential oils to be some of the strongest antimicrobial agents; ridding the body of toxins and fighting infection.

For centuries essential oils have been considered the most theraputic and rejuvenating of all botanical extracts. They are highly concentrated, regenerating, oxygenating and contain hormones, vitamins, and antiseptics that work on many levels.

How does Aromatherapy work

Essential oils stimulates the powerful sense of smell.

A popular method of using essential oils is by “vapourising” in an oil-burner or vapouriser.

However essential oils are far more effective when they come into contact with the body, through direct application, massage, spritzer, bathing, gargle and inhalation.
